Hip Hop Dance

Hip Hop DanceHip-Hop dance is a dance that is very popular today. It is a fabulous cardio workout that requires a lot of physical strength and stamina, with a good sense of rhythms and beats. Hip-Hop is danced to rap, hip-hop, R8B, or contemporary pop music of today, and is always high energy and needs to be full of personality and expression in order to look good.

Like Jazz dance, Hip-Hop also stems from African American culture and has greatly risen in popularity. Hip-Hop incorporates lots of African, funk, street dancing, freestyle, and breakdancing into its moves.

Hip-Hop is so popular that you can find it taught at almost any dance studio, and if it is not taught as a separate class it is often times incorporated into jazz classes or routines, as the two dances are similar in many regards. Hip-Hop dancing is far away from ballet dancing; it requires you to 'come off' your center rather than retain a stiff posture like in ballet.

A lot of Hip-Hop's movements originate in the hips, knees, and bum, with lots of motion coming from the neck and arms as well. Unlike Ballet or Jazz, Hip-Hop requires no "formal," training, though like anything in life, if you want to be really good at it, you have to put in some elbow grease!

The biggest attraction most people have to Hip-Hop dancing is that it allows you to be very in expressing your unique personality and style, the more attitude the better. Hip-Hop is for all ages and dance backgrounds, it can be learned and enjoyed by anyone who just wants to get up and dance.
